Game a Week #15: Alone in the Dark

What went right

  • I was able to implement PS4 controller support  which I was not even aware was a feature on Clickteam Fusion, so when I got it all working correctly I had a little moment of child-like excitement seeing the character move while I used the thumb stick to control it's movements.
  • I got the gameplay working exactly how I envisioned it, I was able to implement the flashlight feature that froze the enemies without to much of a problem.
  • I also implemented some sounds to the game to give it just that much more level of feeling like an actual game and that made me feel really good seeing the final product come to life. All the sounds that I used seemed to flow really well together and I had never messed to much with sounds when it came to my games so I'm glad it actually came out decent.

What went wrong

  • I completely forgot to include a Credits page in the final prototype
  • I wasn't able to add in an instructions page like I wanted to, but I think I made it as intuitive as I could think of so that you wouldn't really need an instructions page
  • I wanted to get the prototype to be available for android devices, but I wasn't able to get to installing the Android Export Module on the new computer I had just gotten so that was out of the question.

What I learned

  • I learned how to implement controller support to games so I will definitely be taking full advantage of that for future games.
  • I learned that planning things out and sticking to a strict set up tasks helps to make game making that much more easy to wrap your head around.
